Co-Host of The Chew Will Bring Southern Comfort to NYC by Spring 2015

As someone who has lived in New York City his entire life, one thing that has never been easy to find is comfort food. It seems weird, as New York should have everything, but southern comfort restaurants are not the most common. Even KFC, which specializes in Southern Comfort, only has a few locations around the city.

Well, thanks to Carla Hall, former Top Chef contestant and co-host of The Chew, things are about to change. She plans on opening a restaurant called “Carla Hall’s Southern Chicken” in New York City by Spring 2015! She recently launched a Kickstarter page to help fund this venture, with the goal of raising $250,000 to get this process moving.

Carla’s menu will include her signature Hot Chicken, with different sauces to choose from, mac and cheese, southern greens, and more!

Kickstarter is a global crowdfunding platform for people to help make their creative projects and ideas a reality. Companies and projects that were successful on Kickstarter include Pebble: E-Paper Watch, The Veronica Mars Movie, Coolest Cooler, and Reading Rainbow. With that, depending on how much you donate, you get a gift or prize for your contribution.

In Carla’s case, she will personally give you a gift that starts with a homemade whoopee pie and gets more extravagant as the donations get bigger. Also, for only $25, you would be considered a Founder of the restaurant, with your name on the Founders Wall of every location. Personally, paying $25 to be considered a Founder of a restaurant (or anything) sounds pretty awesome.

However, according to The Washington Post, she says that she is still going to move ahead with the project even if her goal is not reached, “It may take a little longer,” she said to them. Once she opens in New York, her plan is to open in Philadelphia and in Washington DC by Spring 2017.

Stop by her page and check it out! If the pictures of her fried chicken, combined with her incredibly enthusiastic Kickstarter video, are not enough to hook you, I don’t know what is.
