Mike Krieger says that more features will be added in regards to specific events.

“What we need to do is figure out how to take the fact that everyone’s contributing in the world and broadcast that more globally,” Krieger said. He believes that Instagram will be a useful tool to give the world a chance to get a glance at big moments, like the 2018 World Cup, or the even the 2016 Olympics. This will play a role in Instagram’s continued growth.

Back in February of 2013, Instagram announced that it reached 100 million users. Only recently, the network decided to allow ads on the network, which some users weren’t too pleased with.

Systrom responded with, “The reason why we’re doing this is as a growth engine for Instagram”. He continues “When you get to 300m users it’s not cheap to run that service and you need to make sure to be able to hire more people.”

While these ads may be seen as slightly annoying by users, they haven’t proven to be a detriment to Instagram, as it continues to grow. Systrom credits this to working closely with Facebook, and having the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others.

The team’s ability to adapt quickly and add features that users Like, such as video-sharing and direct messaging, keeps them in good competition with their rival social networks.
