Twitter Introduces “Buy” Feature on Mobile to Make Shopping on Your Phone Easier

By  |  0 Comments Twitter announced in their blog on September 8th a new “Buy” feature that allows you to make purchases through their mobile app. Companies can tweet products that can be bought directly from the tweet.

Posts will now have a “Buy” button, which gives Twitter users the ability to purchase that product on the spot. By simply pressing the “Buy” button, you store your information securely on Twitter, and then confirm the purchase on the app. According to their blog, it is the early stage of incorporating functionality into Twitter by bringing the market to your mobile device.

Nathan Hubbord, Head of Commerce at Twitter, told Ad Age that Twitter partnered with Stripe to make payments via the mobile app, and e-commerce providers Gumroad, Musictoday and Fancy to handle the logistics.

(RED) was one of the first to partner with Twitter on this, selling unique David Guetta signed shirts through the Twitter mobile app. Other nonprofits have also paired with Twitter, including Glide and Global Citizen.

Other groups that have paired with Twitter are musicians (including Eminem and Pharrell) and retailers (including Burberry and Home Depot).

While this new feature is starting on the mobile app, TechCrunch said that the feature would eventually move onto desktop as well. However, since Twitter is in the early stages of this app, no date is set for this to happen.
